The cards are engraved, numbered, and hand colored cards in the original box. Each card features an illustration (one has a movable section) and explanatory text. For example, several cards depict geometric shapes with a description of various kinds of measurements (circumference, angles, diameter, etc.). Another subset of cards describe groups (Peroescii, Antoeci, Antipodes, Ascii, Amphiscii, Hetreroscii, Preiscii) that inhabit different parts of the earth. Illustrations are of men standing on a circle representing the earth. The relative positions of the sun and the moon are shown on other cards. The title on the box.
The Elememts of Astronomy / Condition / Cards 38/40 (missing 11 and 14) + one damaged (part has been cut away) otherwise in very good condition colored in 5/6 colorers / Rules - photocopy / Box - original (worn at corners) with label which is slightly scuffed but shows the picture of the telescope and the globe.

These cards are a hand drawn copy of the engraved and colored by the Abbe Paris, that were published by John Wallis c1795. Each card features an illustration and, on the back, hand written explanatory text, which is the same as that on the printed John Wallis cards For example, several cards depict geometric shapes with a description of various kinds of measurements (circumference, angles, diameter, etc.). 1845 - Astronomical Recreation John Betts 115 Strand The slipcase shows a coloured lithograph by the Leighton Brothers from the cover of an educational game, showing a family examining a star chart and relating it to the night sky. This print relates to a set of identification cards produced to instruct people in the recognition of star patterns in the sky. The game does not include the planet Neptune that was found in 1846
